Root, The Environmentally friendly Shoppe – a female-owned, mom-daughter business in Haven Beach – is partnering with the Long Seaside Township Maritime Industry Station at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, July 8, for a course on the historic Japanese botanic practice of Kokedama. All ages are welcome.
Kokedama, which is Japanense for moss ball, “originated with the Nearai bonsai technique, an art kind centuries previous,” as the Penn Point out Extension points out. “It refers to plants grown so compact and tightly that, when removed from a container, they keep perfectly-developed roots and soil, forming a compact ball.
“The root balls are then wrapped in moss and held together with twine or wire.”
The workshop rate is $25 per individual. Space is confined, and pre-registration and pre-payment are needed. RSVP at rootgreenshoppe.com.
The LBT Subject Station is positioned on the bay at 127 West Osborn Ave. in Holgate.
