Growing up as a child and into my early 30s, I spent every summer at the Jersey Shore. My parents had a house in Margate which is also where I happened to meet my husband at 17. That said, when it came to purchasing a shore home, Ocean City or Margate would have been the obvious choice as we Philly people tend to get a bit territorial when it comes to “our shore”.

In the meantime, we were introduced to Beach Haven when a friend invited us to Romeos restaurant for dinner (now @black_whale_lbi ). We immediately fell in love with the Queen City and the island. Something about it was different, less commercial and unspoiled. After years of renting, in 1998 we bit the bullet and bought in Beach Haven. Our daughter was not yet born and our boys were 8 and 5.

As I sit here writing, I am tearing up (happy tears) as I reminisce the wonderful memories made here on LBI… @holidaysnackbar @barrysdomeaflavor
@surflighttheater @showplaceicecream
@fantasyisland
@tuckers (now and back in the Schmitty and Joe days), Saturday afternoons at the @seashellresort with Dog Voices (yes they will forever be Dog Voices), @chowderfest weekends and far too many delicious meals to mention.

Our kids learned to surf on Berkeley, attended teen nights at The Ketch, devoured wings after midnight @lbi_chegg, watched fireworks on the dock every Fourth of July, held summer jobs at @fantasyislandlbi @thunderingsurf @happyskippericecream and the list goes on!

While I have many fond memories from all the Jersey Shore points, there’s just something special about LBI! For me, it’s a feeling of being transported somewhere special – still after 25 years!

It’s hard to explain as it’s more than the incredible restaurants, adorable shops and nightlife. Perhaps it’s the cool surfy vibe meets Victorian beauty or the gorgeous beaches, stunning waterways and breathtaking bay views. It could, however be the old fishing villages, shipyards and insane sunsets. What ever it is, most impressive is how hip and trendy LBI has become while maintaining its coastal charm and everlasting nostalgia.

If you are lucky enough to understand what I am “trying” to say, share what makes LBI special to you!

    I have so many wonderful memories I can’t pick one. But I will say after coming to Beach Haven every Summer since 1977, as we come across the causeway I can feel the magic that the Island has and it has never stopped!! Thanks for sharing your memories!❤

    I was lucky to spend every summer growing up in Harvey Cedars. It’s just a special place. It’s tied to the ocean and bay more then the other shore points. Water is everywhere, wind plays a role in your daily activity. The air is different, people are friendly. It’s the best.

    You have written exactly why we love LBI. You don’t feel like you’re at the “typical” Jersey Shore. It’s another world, a better world. A beautiful dinner at The Gables. Drinks and music in the afternoon at The Shell right off the beach. Concerts in the park. Unbelievable sunsets and sunrises. And always Marvel’s donuts! Not to mention Skipper Dipper! Oh so many wonderful reasons to go and stay in LBI.
