This summer would have been our third summer on LBI. We opened our doors in April 2018. Everyone said, give it three years. I was so excited and grateful for the summer 2020. I was looking forward to seeing new and old faces who were part of our Simply Yoga Community in our beautiful and peaceful space on N. Bay Avenue in Beach Haven. Then COVID hit, and we had to close our doors for in-studio classes in mid-March. When we were able to open at 25% in July, we would only be allowed 5 people wearing masks. For the safety and health of the community and my teachers, I chose to remain closed. We added beach yoga on Nelson Avenue in Beach Haven in summer, so we were able to see many familiar and new faces on the beach. However, beach yoga is not for everyone, so we missed very much seeing all our Simply Yoga friends and family.
Because our studio is on Long Beach Island, a vacation spot in NJ, we are a seasonal business, with 10-11 weeks, June through Labor Day, to make money to pay rent, teachers, insurance, etc. Because of COVID, we missed an entire season. The rent increased, however the income did not. So, I made the difficult decision and with a heavy heart, to close the studio. It was an emotional day yesterday, as I mailed my keys back to the landlord, walked one more time through a beautiful space, a community that I, along with all the people who entered into, created.
My intention for opening the studio was to provide a gentler approach to yoga classes, and to introduce the healing benefits of yoga, emotional and physical, to people who had never walked into a studio before. I feel I accomplished that, and for that, I am grateful and blessed.
We will continue providing virtual and beach yoga classes next summer and hopefully, we will find another space to provide yoga to the LBI community.
With a gratitude and love,
Namaste and be well, Mary #simplyyogalbi #lbinj #gratitude #newbeginnings #beachhavennj
