Ocean County College Employee Named a Veteran Champion of the Year in Higher Education

Ryan Luurtsema, assistant director of Ocean County College’s Veteran and Army Resource Heart, has been specified a 2021 Veteran Champion of the 12 months in Higher Instruction by VIQTORY, which publishes G.I. Jobs journal, dispersed to the U.S. Division of Defense, the military services and corporations throughout the world. Luurtsema, 1 of only 19 individuals in the country to receive this award, “was regarded for his dedication, hard work and achievement in generating sustainable and significant opportunities for the military services group,” OCC mentioned.
“Luurtsema was nominated for demonstrating a verified track document of advocating on behalf of our nation’s veterans by trying to find to enhance the recruitment, enrollment, retention, graduation and task placement of veterans, and working to bridge the cultural gap between veterans and civilian students,” the college extra.
Dan Fazio, managing editor of G.I. Positions journal, remarked, “America’s veterans are nicely geared up to realize success as civilians when they depart the army. But champions like Ryan who perform tirelessly at the rear of the scenes to guidance veterans in their transition much too normally go unrecognized for their initiatives. It is certainly our honor to shine the highlight on people who champion our veterans.”
OCC’s Veteran and Navy Resource Center residences an array of aid amenities for military-related learners, together with tutoring and properly trained liaisons.
