Save the Date: Ship Bottom Christmas Parade Is On

The once-a-year Ship Bottom Xmas Parade is a go – for now. Even so, up until the day of the parade, officials reserve the appropriate to terminate for any cause connected to the coronavirus pandemic that has compelled other longtime Island gatherings to reinvent on their own.  
Borough Council President Ed English, who chairs the parks and recreation committee, manufactured the announcement throughout the council’s Sept. 22 caucus assembly. He mentioned he experienced spoken with members of the parks and recreation committee, as properly as clinical gurus and the borough solicitor, prior to achieving the conclusion.  
“As of proper now, his authorized feeling was to have the parade,” English reported of his dialogue with Christopher J. Connors, borough attorney. “But that could modify if there is a spike (in cases) in Ocean County.” 
As of Sept. 24, the Island had 1 active coronavirus case, which did not need hospitalization.  
“We’re going to be pretty cautious about it,” English stated of proceeding with the parade.  
In the meantime, preparing for the 41st annual parade is underway, and volunteers are wanted. Interested parties are questioned to email vpeters@shipbottom.org.  —G.G.S.
