Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who represents New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, which features all of Southern Ocean County other than 50 % of Stafford Township and all of Barnegat Township, employed to be acknowledged as a moderate when he was a Democrat.
He was, for example, a person of only two Democrats in the U.S. Property of Reps who voted towards the impeachment of President Donald Trump for abuse of energy and just one of only three who voted in opposition to impeachment for obstruction of justice in December 2019. An additional instance – Van Drew experienced a 100% rating by the Countrywide Rifle Affiliation.
But he doesn’t look to be a reasonable since switching to the Republican Social gathering before long immediately after the impeachment vote. He promised his “undying support” for Trump, was rewarded with a January 2020 rally in Wildwood, and has kept his word.
Van Drew has voted alongside the strains of Trump repeatedly in the earlier couple weeks. He supported Trump’s demand for $2,000 stimulus/reduction checks for most American adults. He did not vote to override a Trump veto of the bipartisan $740 billion National Protection Authorization Act, while the Residence overwhelmingly voted to do so by a 322-87 depend. He had also signed onto a lawsuit from Texas asking the Supreme Court to overturn the election, a lawsuit that SCOTUS instantly tossed out.
But Van Drew’s most apparent illustrations of help for President Trump arrived late on Wednesday evening and early in the morning on Thursday, Jan. 6 and 7, when he tried to overturn the presidential election benefits of Arizona and Pennsylvania. He was a person of 121 Dwelling Republicans to challenge the vote in Arizona and 1 of 138 associates of the GOP to attempt to overthrow Pennsylvania’s vote. In the finish, the Arizona problem was defeated by a 303-121 vote in the Household and 93-6 in the Senate. Pennsylvania’s vote was affirmed by a 282-138 margin in the Residence and 92-7 in the Senate.
Keep in mind, those votes took put right after insurrectionists experienced occupied the U.S. Capitol, chanting “hang Mike Pence,” and resulting in five fatalities, which includes a Capitol police officer. But Van Drew even now voted with Trump, even just after releasing this assertion condemning the riot in the Capitol making as it was using location: “What is going on at the Capitol is unacceptable, un-American, and disrespectful of democracy. The discussion several protestors have been asking for was taking place currently and due to the fact of these steps it was abruptly finished. Everyone has the right to peacefully protest but what took place these days was not peaceful or productive. Today’s debate was about the rule of legislation and by harming police officers, staying violent, and breaking into a Federal constructing, the rule of law was damaged. I request that the President arrive at out and check with the protestors to leave the Capitol constructing immediately.”  —R.M.
